Front Row Classics is taking another look at a holiday staple 1942’s Holiday Inn. This joyous musical is perfect for any time of year. But. it’s especially fitting to view during the Christmas season. Brandon is joined by Kevin Hart and Jacqueline Keysear. Kevin is currently directing a production of Holiday Inn at the Hoogland Center for the Arts in Springfield, IL. Jacqueline, whom our listeners will know from Like This Pod, is playing the role of Lila. We’re closing in on the holiday season, which means it will soon be time to enjoy our favorite Christmas movies once again. Brandon is thrilled to welcome back, author/film historian, Jeremy Arnold. Jeremy recently penned “Christmas in the Movies (Revised & Expanded Edition) : 35 Classics to Celebrate the Season”. The book offers more than 70 pages of new content to Jeremy’s previous ‘Christmas Movies’ book.

Brandon and Jeremy discuss the new titles added as well as the special features of the book. Topics include: Christmas & Film Noir, Christmas Cartoons and the importance of the year 1947 in Christmas movies. We also discuss how Christmas movies have been important cultural touchstones in times of national trauma.

Jeremy Arnold is a film historian, commentator, and author of Turner Classic Movies’ The Essentials and The Essentials: Vol. 2. His writing has appeared in Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, Moviemaker, and the Directors Guild of America magazine, and he has recorded audio commentaries for the Blu-ray or DVD releases of numerous vintage films. He lives in Los Angeles.

Front Row Classics celebrates the holiday season with what many consider to be the definitive film version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Brandon and Eric are joined by Jay Hoffman and Anna McFarland to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 1951 UK version starring Alastair Sim as Scrooge. The hosts discuss the aspects of the film which set it apart from other retellings of the story.
